Ballroomquartet is a unique Belgian band with an exceptional sound and unusual instrumentation. The eccentric combination of classical and traditional instruments with electronics creates a dancy, filmic and dreamy atmosphere. On stage, they're always in for musical experimentation. Energy, virtuosity and sensitivity are the key words. Their three full-albums, Surfing Sufi (2004), Soundmanifest (2007) & Ballroomquartet (2009) -which was produced by Blixa Bargeld- got some very good press reviews. In october 2008 they were invited by the famous French composer Yann Tiersen to play @ the concerthall 'La Cigale' in Paris on the Montmartre Filmfestival. In the summer of 2010 they performed @ Les Ardentes Liège & The Folk and Roots Festival @ Rudolstadt in Germany.
This band has an exceptional live reputation! One of the most innovating & eclectic sounds in Belgium! You should check them out!
The press about 'soundmanifest', second album of The Ballroomquartet
-"Soundmanifest: The ideal name for this second album.....not as many others....exciting dance(music),..." (Oor, Willem Jongeneelen)
-"Original, surprising, daring and (again) crossing borders...4 stars" "...Their sound is eclectic and universal, touches the bounderies of rock, classical music and klezmer, but the songs are always dynamical and original!(****) - (De Morgen, Bart Steenhaut)
-"Their sound is fresh and new. Soundmanifest is a strong manifest...." (Goddeau, Matthieu van Steenkiste)
The Press about ‘Ballroomquartet’, third album of The Ballroomquartet
-"Musically, this quartet has a lot to offer, combining a rhythm section with violin, accordeon, clarinet and even theremin. Cinematographic moods are intertwined with romantic music and gnarling expressionism." (De Standaard, Peter vantyghem)
-"A largely instrumental folk record, poised somewhere in between Sixteen Horsepower & French chanson, and sounding a lot more dynamic then you might associate with folk." .....”.A beautiful soundtrack, just waiting for someone to make a movie to it." (***) - (De Morgen, Bart Steenhaut)
-"Bearing the fruits of the band’s homework and a lot of out-of-the-box ideas of [producer] Blixa Bargeld, the assignment can be considered a good job very well done. The end result is fascinating music that promises to spark off fireworks when played live." (RifRaf, Georges Tonla-Briquet)

BEST OF COMPILATION BALLROOMQUARTET
2011 marks the 10th anniversary of Ballroomquartet, a fact that calls for a celebration! January will see the release of a compilation, featuring tracks of their debut album (produced by Triggerfingers Monsieur Paul) through to their third album (produced by Blixa Bargeld, of EN and Bad Seeds fame). The icing on the cake will be some live tracks recorded at RTBF (Belgian national TV) in 2010. This compilation will first be released in the United Kingdom. Ballroomquartet signed an exclusive deal with Frusion Artists and will be playing the UK in the summer. In the meantime, the band are working intensely on the soundtrack of the Belgian-Dutch movie Lena, directed by Christophe Van Rompaey (Moscow, Belgium), also to be released in 2011.
